Selling on Best Buy Marketplace usually starts as a spreadsheet habit. Someone exports the day's orders from the seller portal, pastes them into a workbook, keys them into Business Central as sales orders, and then works backwards to figure out why available inventory no longer matches the quantity the marketplace is advertising. Every hour of that lag is either an oversell you have to cancel — which hits your seller performance metrics — or stock you are holding back from the channel out of caution. When the settlement report arrives, commission, fulfilment and refund lines have to be reconciled by hand against a bank deposit that never equals the sum of the invoices. Dynamics 365 Business Central out of the box has no notion of a marketplace offer, no place to store a marketplace order id, and no way to reconcile a net payout against gross revenue and deducted fees.
We build a dedicated AL extension for your tenant that treats Best Buy Marketplace as a first-class sales channel inside Business Central. The extension ships as a per-tenant extension for Business Central online (or a signed app for an on-premises deployment), installed through Extension Management with its own permission sets rather than dropped into a modified base application. It adds channel setup tables holding the marketplace API credentials, a channel-to-Customer and channel-to-Location mapping, an item-to-offer mapping table keyed on your Item No./Variant Code against the marketplace SKU, and table extensions on Sales Header, Sales Line and Item so the marketplace order id, offer id, shipment id and channel status live on the document itself and travel through to the posted invoice.
Technically, all traffic to the marketplace API runs through codeunits using HttpClient with retry, throttling and full request/response logging into a channel log table, so a failed call is diagnosable rather than a mystery. Polling and pushes run as Job Queue Entries on schedules you choose — for example order import every fifteen minutes, stock and price sync on a shorter cadence, listing export nightly. Order import maps marketplace order states onto a status your team understands, creates the sales order (or invoice, depending on the flow we agree), and is idempotent: a re-poll of the same marketplace order id will never create a second document. Stock synchronisation is event-driven where it should be — EventSubscriber codeunits hooked to posting and item-ledger events queue a quantity update so a warehouse shipment posted in Business Central is reflected on the offer without waiting for the next full sweep. Shipment confirmation and tracking numbers push back from the posted warehouse shipment or Sales Shipment Header, closing the loop on the marketplace side. Settlement files and fee lines are imported and matched to their orders, then posted as general journal or purchase entries against the accounts and dimensions your controller specifies, so the payout in the bank reconciles to gross revenue minus commission and fees. We also expose the connector's own data through API pages (REST API v2.0 / OData v4) so Power BI, Power Automate and Dataverse can read channel status without screen-scraping.
Because the extension is built to your configuration, we do not hand you a generic binary and wish you luck. Delivery starts with a scoping call where we walk your Best Buy Marketplace account, your Business Central version and localisation, your item and variant structure, your warehouse and fulfilment flow, and your finance team's expectations for how marketplace revenue and fees should land in the chart of accounts. That produces a written scope. Typical delivery is two to four weeks from confirmed scope, depending on how many of the five capability areas you need on day one and how clean the item-to-offer mapping is. We build against the Business Central release wave you are actually running, deploy to a sandbox for UAT with your real catalogue, then install to production with a rollback plan.
After go-live you get the AL source in a git repository you own, technical documentation, a user guide, a training session for the people who will run it daily, and a post-go-live support window during which we fix defects and tune the job queue cadence against real order volume. Business Central ships two major release waves a year; we keep the extension compiling and passing against the release wave you are on, and quote separately for functional changes when Best Buy changes its API or you add a new fulfilment model.
Runs the Best Buy Marketplace seller account day to day and is tired of re-keying orders and chasing overselling. Needs orders in Business Central within minutes, offer quantities that match reality, and a single screen showing which orders failed to sync and why.
Has to explain why the marketplace payout does not equal the sum of the invoices. Needs commission, fulfilment and refund lines posted to nominated accounts and dimensions so marketplace channel profitability is reportable from Business Central rather than from a spreadsheet.
Owns the customer's Business Central environment and will not accept base-app modifications or an opaque black box. Needs a clean per-tenant extension with documented event subscribers, readable source in a repo, and no interference with the twice-yearly release wave upgrades.
Ships the goods and needs tracking numbers to reach the marketplace automatically when a warehouse shipment is posted, with partial shipments handled correctly so seller performance metrics are not damaged by late confirmations.
| Criterion | ECOSIRE | Custom Build | Competitor | Dynamics 365 Business Central Native |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fit to your item, warehouse and finance setup | Built against your actual item/variant structure, locations and chart of accounts after a scoping call | Fits perfectly if your developer knows both Business Central and the marketplace API well | Generic mapping model; you adapt your data to the app's assumptions | No concept of a marketplace channel, offer or marketplace order at all |
| Order import behaviour | Idempotent import keyed on marketplace order id, with your status mapping and blocking rules | Whatever was specified; duplicate handling is often the first production defect | Fixed status mapping; edge states usually need a support ticket | Manual re-keying from a portal export or a spreadsheet |
| Stock accuracy and oversell risk | Event-driven updates on posting plus scheduled sweeps and per-offer safety stock | Depends entirely on whether event subscribers were used or only a nightly batch | Usually a scheduled sweep only; lag between posting and marketplace update | None — quantities maintained by hand in the seller portal |
| Settlement and fee reconciliation | Settlement lines matched to orders and posted to your nominated accounts and dimensions | Commonly descoped to phase two and never built | Often a report only, leaving the journal entries manual | Manual reconciliation of a net payout against gross invoices |
| Upgrade safety across release waves | Extension-only: table/page extensions and event subscribers, no base app changes | Safe if disciplined; risky if the developer took shortcuts into base objects | Generally extension-based and upgrade-safe | Not applicable |
| Diagnosing a failed sync | Channel log with full request/response, retry handling and telemetry for long-running jobs | Logging is usually the first thing cut when the budget tightens | Vendor-side logs; you raise a ticket and wait | No sync exists to fail |
| Source code ownership | Full AL source and git repository handed over to you | You own it, and you also own finding someone to maintain it | Closed source; you rent access under a recurring licence | Not applicable |
| Time to a working channel | Typically 2-4 weeks from confirmed scope, including sandbox UAT | Months, plus the hiring or contracting cycle to find an AL developer | Installs quickly, then weeks of workarounds where the model does not fit | Immediate, because nothing is automated |
No. This is a build-to-order extension. We build it for your Business Central tenant against your version, localisation, item structure and fulfilment flow after a scoping call. There is no instant download — you request a quotation, we agree a written scope, and then we build, install and support it.
Typical delivery is two to four weeks from confirmed scope. Scope is confirmed after an initial call of roughly thirty minutes where we review your Best Buy Marketplace account, your Business Central version, your item and variant structure, and how finance wants marketplace fees posted. The range depends on how many capability areas you need at go-live and how much item-to-offer mapping work is required.
Both. For Business Central online we deliver a per-tenant extension installed through Extension Management; for on-premises we deliver a signed app for your deployment. We build and test against the release wave you are actually running, and we support current release waves in both deployment models.
No. It is an AL extension using table extensions, page extensions and event subscribers — the base application is never modified. Microsoft ships two major release waves a year; because the extension only consumes published events and extension points, an upgrade is a recompile-and-test exercise rather than a rebuild.
You get a post-go-live support window for defect fixes and tuning — job queue cadence, safety-stock rules, status mappings — against real order volume. You also receive the full source in a git repository you own, so you are never locked in. Beyond the support window we quote separately for functional changes, such as a new fulfilment model or a change Best Buy makes to its marketplace API.
Order import is idempotent: every marketplace order id is recorded, so a repeated poll or a retried job queue run matches the existing document instead of creating a second one. On the stock side, event subscribers on posting and item ledger events queue an offer quantity update immediately rather than waiting for the next full sweep, and you can configure a per-offer safety-stock buffer so the marketplace is never advertising your last unit.
Yes. The connector exposes channel status, sync history and settlement matching through API pages using REST API v2.0 / OData v4, so Power BI, Power Automate and Dataverse can read it directly. Marketplace channel reporting then sits alongside your other Business Central reporting rather than in a separate tool.
