About this Product
Labs running on Odoo usually stitch together sales orders, project tasks, and spreadsheets to track samples and results — and it breaks down fast. There is no native concept of a sample with a chain of custody, no per-analysis result field with reference ranges, no way to hold a result for a supervisor's technical validation before it reaches a report, and no accession numbering that a regulator or an accreditation auditor would accept. Odoo core gives you partners, products, and a generic project/task board; it does not give you the domain model a diagnostic, testing, QC, or research lab actually needs. As soon as you try to force lab work through Sales or Project, traceability and turnaround-time reporting fall apart.
This is a build-to-order application ECOSIRE designs and builds for your specific lab. At its core we add new ORM models — typically lab.sample, lab.test (linked to a catalogue of lab.test.type), lab.analysis for the individual measurable parameters, and lab.result — declared in models/ as models.Model subclasses with proper fields, @api.depends computed fields (turnaround time, result flags against reference ranges, aggregate sample status), and @api.constrains guards so a result can't be validated out of range without an override reason. Samples receive an automatic accession number via a ir.sequence, carry a state machine (received → in_progress → to_validate → validated → reported), and record who did what and when for chain-of-custody. We wire result entry and technical/medical validation as distinct steps with separate ir.model.access.csv rights and record rules, so a technician can enter but only a supervisor role can validate and release.
Technically, the module ships as a normal Odoo addon with a clean __manifest__.py declaring dependencies (typically base, mail for the chatter/activities audit trail, and contacts/sale or stock where you need requisition, billing, or reagent inventory hooks). The UI is delivered as XML views — list, form, kanban by state, a technician worksheet, and a search view with filters for pending/overdue/abnormal — with OWL components only where a richer bench-entry grid earns its keep. Result reports (the lab report a clinician or client receives) are QWeb PDF templates with your letterhead, reference ranges, and validation signatures. Automated actions and scheduled activities handle turnaround-time escalations and re-test flags. Everything is reachable over Odoo's XML-RPC/JSON-RPC API, so LIS instruments, a patient/customer portal, or an external ordering system can create samples and read results programmatically. We build against your target — Odoo 17.0, 18.0, or 19.0 — and handle the Community vs Enterprise difference (for example, we don't assume Enterprise-only studio or approvals; where a feature needs Enterprise we call it out during scoping).
Delivery is build-to-order, not an instant download. It starts with a scoping call to map your sample types, test catalogue, result parameters, validation rules, and report layout; from there we confirm scope and quote a fixed price. Typical delivery is one working week from confirmed scope, on a staging environment first with UAT before we touch production. Pricing starts from $999 (indicative, single-company base scope); multi-company/multi-branch labs, LIS or instrument integrations, deep local accreditation/regulatory formatting, and migration of historical sample and result data increase the quoted scope. You get the fixed quote in writing after the scoping call — the from-price is a starting point, never the final number.
What you get
- Installable Odoo module source code for your target version (17.0, 18.0, or 19.0), scoped to your lab
- Installation and configuration on your environment (test catalogue, sequences, user groups, and report layout set up)
- Technical documentation — data model, model/field reference, security groups, and API endpoints
- User guide plus a live training session for technicians, validators, and administrators
- UAT on a staging environment with a documented rollback plan before any production change
- Post-go-live support window for defect fixes and configuration questions
- Git repository handover with full commit history and tagged release
- Optional data migration of historical samples/results and instrument-integration mapping, when in scope
Who this is for
Lab / QC Manager on Odoo
Runs a diagnostic, testing, or quality-control lab already on Odoo and needs real sample tracking, validation controls, and turnaround-time reporting instead of spreadsheets bolted onto Sales or Project.
Odoo Functional Consultant / Partner
Delivering an ERP rollout to a lab client and needs a purpose-built lab module that follows Odoo conventions — proper models, security, and QWeb reports — rather than a fragile custom hack.
Lab IT / Systems Owner
Owns the LIS and instrument landscape and needs a module whose XML-RPC/JSON-RPC API and clean data model let analyzers, portals, and ordering systems create samples and read validated results.
Accreditation / Compliance Lead
Responsible for traceability and audit readiness (chain of custody, who-validated-what, reference ranges on reports) and needs enforced two-step validation and an immutable activity trail.
How Laboratory Management for Odoo Compares
| Criterion | ECOSIRE | Custom Build | Competitor | Odoo Native |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fit to your lab's workflow | Built to your sample types, tests, and validation rules | Fully bespoke but you specify and manage everything | Generic feature set, adapt your lab to it | No lab concept — force-fit into Sales/Project |
| Sample & result data model | Dedicated `lab.sample`/`lab.result` models with reference ranges | Whatever your developer designs from scratch | Fixed model you can't easily reshape | None — partners, products, and tasks only |
| Two-step validation & security | Enforced technician vs supervisor via access rules | Possible, depends on your build effort | Often basic or all-or-nothing rights | Generic groups, no validation gate |
| Lab report (QWeb PDF) | Your letterhead, ranges, and validator signatures | Built to order at extra effort | Template report, limited layout control | No lab report; manual documents |
| Instrument / LIS API integration | Scoped XML-RPC/JSON-RPC mapping to your devices | Buildable, all integration work is on you | Rarely included or vendor-locked | API exists but nothing lab-specific to call |
| Cost model | From $999 indicative, fixed quote after scoping | Open-ended developer day rates | Low list price, gaps close via paid customization | Included, but unusable for lab work as-is |
| Delivery & risk | one working week, staging UAT + rollback plan | Timeline depends on your team's capacity | Instant install but then heavy config work | Immediate but no real capability |
| Ownership & support | Full source, git handover, support window | You own it and you maintain it | Vendor-controlled updates and licensing | Core-maintained, but no lab features |
Frequently Asked Questions about Laboratory Management
Is this an existing app I can download and install today?
No. This is a build-to-order Odoo module. ECOSIRE designs and builds it for your specific lab after a scoping call, then installs and supports it. There is no instant download — you receive a module tailored to your sample types, tests, validation rules, and report layout.
How long does delivery take?
Typically one working week from confirmed scope. The timeline starts once the scoping call is done and we've agreed the sample types, test catalogue, workflow, and report format in writing. Larger scope — multi-lab, instrument integrations, or heavy data migration — extends the timeline, which we state in the quote.
How does pricing and scoping work?
Pricing starts from $999 as an indicative single-company base-scope figure. It is not a fixed final price. After the scoping call we send a fixed written quote based on your actual requirements — number of test types, validation and reference-range rules, integrations, multi-company needs, and any historical data migration.
Which Odoo versions and editions do you support?
We build against Odoo 17.0, 18.0, and 19.0, on Community or Enterprise. We confirm your exact version and edition during scoping and avoid depending on Enterprise-only features unless you're on Enterprise and want them — anything version- or edition-specific is called out before we build.
What about support and future Odoo updates?
Every build includes a post-go-live support window for defect fixes and configuration help. Because the module is yours with the full git repository handed over, you can maintain it in-house or engage us for upgrades. Migrating the module to a newer Odoo major version is a separate scoped engagement, since Odoo introduces breaking API changes between majors.
Can it connect to our instruments (LIS) or a customer/patient portal?
Yes, via Odoo's XML-RPC/JSON-RPC API. Analyzers, an existing LIS, an ordering system, or a portal can create samples and read validated results programmatically. The specific instrument protocols and field mapping are scoped and quoted as an integration add-on.
Do we own the code?
Yes. You receive the full installable source and the git repository with commit history and a tagged release. There's no per-seat lock-in on the module itself — it runs on your Odoo instance and you're free to maintain or extend it.
