Month-end in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations rarely fails because the data is missing. It fails because the data is scattered across GeneralJournalAccountEntry, CustTrans, VendTrans, budget register entries and financial dimension sets, and nobody has assembled it into the specific views your controller, CFO and auditors actually ask for. So the team exports trial balance to Excel, hand-builds an ageing bucket, pastes last year's comparative, and reconciles the same numbers three ways every single month.
Native F&O gives you a financial reporting designer, standard aged balance reports and a handful of analytical workspaces. They are competent building blocks. We build a reporting schema fed from posted ledger data — GeneralJournalAccountEntry joined to GeneralJournalEntry, resolved through DimensionAttributeValueCombination so that every figure carries your financial dimension set. Aggregation runs in the batch framework on a schedule you choose (typically nightly, with an on-demand refresh for close week), so dashboards never hammer the transactional tables during business hours.
Balances are computed per fiscal calendar period from FiscalCalendarPeriod, so opening balance, period movement and closing balance are consistent with how F&O itself closes a period. Currency is held in both transaction and accounting currency, with reporting-currency translation using the exchange rate types already configured in your ledger setup.
Profit and loss — main account category driven, with period, quarter and year-to-date columns, prior-year comparatives, and drill-through from any figure down to voucher and originating document. Row structures follow your main account categories rather than a fixed template, so a reclassified account flows through without a rebuild.
Balance sheet — assets, liabilities and equity by main account category, with movement analysis between two selected periods and dimension filtering on any dimension in your set.
Cash flow — indirect method built from ledger movement, plus a direct bank view sourced from BankAccountTrans where bank reconciliation is in use. Forecast columns can be extended from open CustTrans and VendTrans due dates when you want a short-horizon liquidity view.
Ageing is built on the same open-transaction logic F&O uses for settlement, reading CustTrans and VendTrans with settlement state from CustSettlement and VendSettlement, so an invoice that was partially settled ages by its remaining balance rather than its original amount. Buckets are configurable per customer or vendor ageing period definition. Views pivot by customer group, vendor group, collections agent, dimension or legal entity, and every row drills to the underlying open transaction.
Actuals from the ledger aggregation are compared to BudgetTransactionLine figures at whichever dimension granularity you budget on. Variance is presented in absolute and percentage terms, with a commitment column that includes open purchase order encumbrance where budget control is enabled in your environment.
Dashboards land as F&O workspaces and forms built in X++, so security is your security — SecurityRole, duties and privileges you already maintain, with data-level restriction honoured through your existing extensible data security policies. Every dashboard has a matching data entity exposed over OData for the finance team that prefers to consume figures in Excel or Power BI. If you already run Power BI centrally, we can additionally deliver an embedded report configuration against those entities rather than duplicating the visual layer.
Organisations running Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations with more than one legal entity, a financial dimension structure that carries real meaning, and a finance team currently rebuilding the same reports in Excel every month. Nothing moves forward until the numbers tie. 5. Production. You promote the same package through your normal release process. We support the go-live window and the first month-end close on it. 6. Support. A defined support window is included, covering defects and questions. Ongoing support beyond that window is available separately.
Typical lead time is two to four weeks from signed quote to a package in your sandbox, depending on how many dimension structures and legal entities are in scope.
