A funeral home does not sell products, it manages cases. From the first call at 2am to the final statement six weeks later, one case file has to hold the decedent record, the informant and next-of-kin contacts, the arrangement conference decisions, casket and urn selection, the visitation and service times, the crematory or cemetery booking, the death certificate and permit numbers, the cash advance items paid to third parties, and the itemized price list the family signed. Standard Dynamics 365 Business Central has no concept of any of it. You can force a case into a Sales Order and the arrangements into sales lines, but the moment you need to attach a service on a specific date at a specific chapel, track a merchandise item that is also part of a package, or print a price disclosure in the sequence a regulator requires, you are in spreadsheets and a filing cabinet — and the numbers in Business Central stop matching the numbers the family was quoted.
ECOSIRE builds a Business Central AL extension that makes the case the primary document. A new Funeral Case table carries decedent details, informant and responsible-party links to Customer and Contact, disposition type, and a status flow (First Call → Arrangement → Scheduled → Serviced → Billed → Closed) driven by a state codeunit rather than free text. Arrangement lines sit in a dedicated line table with line types for Professional Services, Facilities & Staff, Merchandise, Packages, and Cash Advances, so a cash advance passes through to the family statement at cost without inflating your revenue or your COGS. Merchandise lines are real Item records, so caskets, urns and register books draw on standard Business Central inventory, item tracking and costing — no shadow catalogue. Packages explode into their component lines with an allocated price, and the component detail stays visible for disclosure.
Scheduling is modelled with a Resource-backed booking table: chapels, hearses, limousines, preparation rooms, celebrants and licensed directors are all resources, and a booking codeunit enforces overlap validation across a case's visitation, service and committal appointments before it will post. Regulatory documentation is generated from the case with Word layout report objects — general price list, itemized statement of goods and services selected, authorization and cremation permission forms, transit and burial permits — with a Funeral Document Log recording which version was issued, to whom, and when, so an inspection has an audit trail instead of a folder. Family billing posts through native Sales Invoice and Cust. Ledger Entry, with support for split responsibility across multiple payers, insurance assignment, and installment terms, so aging, statements and collections behave exactly as your accountant already expects.
Technically it is a standard AL extension for current Business Central release waves on SaaS or on-premises: table and page extensions rather than base-app modification, event subscribers into Sales-Post and Item Jnl.-Post Line, dedicated permission sets separating arrangers, directors and finance, and API pages exposed over REST API v2.0 / OData v4 so an obituary website, a Power BI case-volume report, or a Power Automate flow in Dataverse can read case and schedule data without a middleman. Long-running work — preneed accrual, document expiry reminders, unbilled-case alerts — runs on Job Queue Entries, not on someone remembering.
This is build-to-order, not an AppSource download. We start with a scoping call, confirm your disposition types, price list structure, document set and jurisdiction, then write the extension against your Business Central version. Typical delivery is 2-4 weeks from confirmed scope. You get the AL source, the compiled app deployed to a sandbox for UAT, a documented rollback, training for your arrangers and office staff, and a support window after go-live. If your state or country requires a form we have not seen, we build it — that is the point of building to order.
Runs one to a handful of locations and is tired of the gap between what the family signed and what the accounting system shows. Needs case volume, average case value and unbilled work visible without exporting anything, and needs the price disclosure documents to be provably correct at inspection time.
Sits with a family during the arrangement conference and needs one screen carrying decedent details, merchandise selection, service times and running total — printed as an itemized statement before the family leaves, without re-keying anything into a second system.
Owns billing, statements, insurance assignments and collections. Needs cash advances to pass through cleanly, split family responsibility to age correctly per payer, and everything to land in the same `Cust. Ledger Entry` and aging reports already used for the month-end close.
Responsible for keeping the tenant upgradeable across release waves. Wants an extension that uses table extensions and event subscribers rather than base-app changes, ships with permission sets and API pages, and arrives with source code and documentation rather than a black box.
| Criterio | ECOSIRE | Construcción personalizada | Competidor | Nativo de Dynamics 365 Business Central |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Case as a first-class record | Dedicated `Funeral Case` table with typed arrangement lines and a governed status flow | Achievable, but you design the data model from scratch and own every edge case | Usually present, though the model is fixed and rarely matches your disposition types | No case concept — you bend a Sales Order and lose service dates and line types |
| Regulatory document set | Built for your jurisdiction from forms you supply, with an issued-document audit log | Whatever your developer has time to build; the log is usually skipped | Ships one country's forms; anything else is a change request or unavailable | Standard sales documents only — no price disclosure or authorization forms |
| Facility and staff scheduling | Resource-backed bookings with overlap validation across visitation, service and committal | Often a date field plus a shared calendar, with conflicts caught by humans | Calendar view included, though usually a closed module with limited resource types | Resource capacity exists but has no notion of chapels, hearses or service events |
| Merchandise and inventory | Native `Item` records, so costing, tracking and purchasing are unchanged | Depends entirely on the build; parallel catalogues are a common shortcut | Frequently a separate merchandise list you reconcile back to inventory | Full inventory, but no link to a case or an arrangement conference |
| Cash advances and pass-through items | Dedicated line type that bills the family without touching revenue or COGS | Needs deliberate posting design; commonly gets it wrong on the first pass | Supported if the vendor's accounting assumptions match yours | Would post as ordinary sales, overstating revenue on every case |
| Upgrade safety across release waves | Table extensions and event subscribers only — no base-app modification | Depends on the developer's discipline; older builds often carry base changes | Generally upgrade-safe, but you wait on the vendor's release cadence | Nothing to break, because nothing funeral-specific exists |
| Source code and ownership | Full AL source and git repository handed over at delivery | You own it, along with the entire maintenance burden | Compiled app under licence; you cannot change behaviour yourself | Not applicable — no vertical code to own |
| External integration | API pages over REST API v2.0 / OData v4 for obituary sites, Power BI and Dataverse | Possible, but API pages are the first thing dropped when time runs short | Vendor-defined endpoints; anything outside them requires a request | Standard BC APIs only — no case, arrangement or schedule entities |
This is a build-to-order extension, not an existing AppSource app you download today. Typical delivery is 2-4 weeks from confirmed scope — the clock starts once we have agreed your disposition types, price list structure, required document set and jurisdiction on the scoping call. Larger scopes (multi-location, preneed trust accounting, cemetery integration) are quoted with their own timeline before any work begins.
You get a post-go-live support window for defect fixes and configuration adjustments as real cases flow through. Because the extension uses table extensions and event subscribers rather than base-app modification, Business Central release wave updates do not normally break it — but we validate against the next wave and supply a recompiled app if an object or event signature changes. You also receive the git repository and AL source, so you are never locked to us for a change.
Both. For SaaS we deliver a per-tenant extension deployed through your admin centre or as an AppSource-style app package, tested on a sandbox first. For on-premises we deliver the compiled app plus the AL source and target your specific platform and application version. The scoping call establishes which, since deployment method affects permission set delivery and how Job Queue Entries are configured.
Yes, deliberately. Caskets, urns, register books and memorial products are real `Item` records, so quantity on hand, item tracking, costing and purchase workflows are exactly what Business Central already does. The extension adds case-level arrangement lines that reference those items; it does not create a parallel catalogue you would have to reconcile.
That is the main reason this is built to order. Price disclosure and authorization requirements differ by state, province and country. During scoping you send us the forms you use today; we build them as Word layout report objects driven from case data, and log each issued version in the `Funeral Document Log`. If a rule changes later, the layout is yours to amend or we amend it under support.
Cash advance arrangement lines — cemetery fees, clergy honoraria, certified copies, newspaper notices — carry their own line type. They appear on the family's itemized statement at the amount charged, but post so they do not inflate your revenue or cost of goods sold. The corresponding vendor payable is linked to the case so you can see, per case, what has been advanced and what has been recovered.
Yes. We publish API pages over REST API v2.0 / OData v4 for cases, arrangement lines and schedule entries, secured by permission set. That is how an obituary website pulls service times, how a Power BI report charts case volume and average case value, and how a Power Automate flow in Dataverse triggers family follow-up. The endpoints and their schemas are covered in the technical documentation.
