Referral Program & Word-of-Mouth Engine is a custom Shopify app that ECOSIRE builds, installs, and supports for your store — it is not an instant App Store download. After purchase we connect to your store via a Shopify OAuth flow with scoped access (read_customers, read_orders, write_discounts, write_price_rules), then tailor the referral logic to your products, themes, and reward economics.
Every customer gets a unique referral link and a personal discount code generated through the Admin GraphQL API (discountCodeBasicCreate / priceRuleCreate). When a referred friend converts, an orders/create webhook fires into the app, which attributes the sale, validates it against fraud rules, and triggers dual-sided rewards — store credit, a discount, or a fixed payout for the advocate, and a welcome discount for the friend.
We persist referral state in customer and order metafields (namespace ecosire.referral) so your data lives inside your own Shopify store, not locked in a third-party silo. Post-purchase prompts appear on the order-status page and in transactional emails, asking happy buyers to share at their moment of highest satisfaction.
Fraud and self-referral detection flags matching emails, shared payment fingerprints, same-device signups, and velocity spikes before any reward is paid. A referral leaderboard and embeddable share widgets (email, WhatsApp, X, copy-link) ship as theme app extensions so nothing breaks on theme updates.

Yes. Referral relationships, attribution, and reward state are stored in customer and order metafields under the ecosire.referral namespace, inside your own Shopify store. You are not locked into a third-party platform, and the data stays with you if the engagement ends.
How does the fraud and self-referral detection actually work?
Before any reward is paid, the app checks for self-referral signals — matching advocate/friend emails, shared payment or device fingerprints, same-IP signups, and abnormal referral velocity. Suspicious referrals are held in a manual review queue rather than auto-paid, and rewards can be configured to trigger only after an order is paid or after the return window closes.
Will the share widgets and leaderboard break when I update my theme?
No. The share widgets and leaderboard ship as Shopify theme app extensions (app blocks), so they are added through the theme editor and persist across theme updates and Online Store 2.0 changes. They do not require hard-coded edits to your theme's Liquid that would be overwritten on update.
