The module observes the native sales_order_shipment_save_after event to push each new shipment (tracking number + carrier slug) into the AfterShip API, and a Magento cron job reconciles checkpoints every few hours so statuses stay current even for shipments created in the admin or via API. AfterShip's engine auto-detects the carrier from the tracking number across 900+ carriers, so your team rarely picks a courier manually. A custom controller renders a branded tracking page at a route like /tracking — your logo, fonts and colors via a theme-aware .phtml template — and an account-area block surfaces live status inside My Orders.
Notifications are wired through Magento's email transport and your SMS provider: customers get email and SMS alerts on key transitions (info received, in transit, out for delivery, delivered, delivery exception), so a stuck or returned parcel triggers a proactive message instead of an angry ticket. Everything respects Magento service contracts, admin ACL (a dedicated resource gates config and the tracking grid), and exposes status via REST/GraphQL for headless or PWA Studio storefronts.
