UK Making Tax Digital VAT Filing is a build-to-order Shopify app that ECOSIRE develops, installs and maintains specifically for your store — it is not an instant App Store download. Under HMRC's Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT rules, VAT-registered businesses must keep digital records and submit returns through MTD-compatible software using HMRC's APIs. This app does exactly that, end to end, against your live Shopify data.

After purchase, we connect to your store via a custom app using the Admin GraphQL API and register webhooks (orders/create, orders/updated, refunds/create) so every transaction, refund and Shopify fee is captured as it happens. The app aggregates output VAT on sales and adjustments on refunds, separating line-level tax by rate (standard 20%, reduced, zero-rated and exempt), and stores the breakdown as a digital audit trail that satisfies MTD record-keeping requirements.

It supports both the Standard VAT scheme and the Flat Rate Scheme, applies the correct treatment for your registration, and produces a 9-box VAT return preview before anything is sent. You review and apply manual adjustments, then the app submits the return through HMRC's MTD VAT API using OAuth 2.0 authorisation and stores the submission receipt and correlation ID.

How long until it's live on my store?

Typical delivery is 2 to 4 weeks from purchase and access. The first week covers requirements (your VAT scheme, rates and edge cases) and store connection; the remaining time covers HMRC integration, a sandbox test submission, and end-to-end review before go-live. Complex multi-rate or B2B/EU setups may take slightly longer.

Does it actually submit my VAT return to HMRC, or just prepare it?

It submits. The app authorises with HMRC via OAuth 2.0 and files your 9-box return through the official MTD VAT API, then stores the submission receipt and correlation ID. You always review the preview and apply any adjustments before the return is sent.

Do you support the Flat Rate Scheme as well as Standard VAT?

Yes. We configure the app for whichever scheme your business is registered under. For the Flat Rate Scheme it applies your flat-rate percentage to VAT-inclusive turnover; for Standard VAT it calculates output and input figures across your rate bands.

What ongoing support and updates do I get after launch?

ECOSIRE provides ongoing support and maintains the app as HMRC's MTD API and Shopify's Admin API evolve, including OAuth token renewal and webhook health. Support terms are agreed at handover; we can also adjust VAT logic if your schemes or rates change.

Will my Shopify data be accurate enough for filing?

The app reads tax data Shopify already records per line item via the Admin GraphQL API and reconciles refunds and fees. During build we validate the figures against a known period with you, and the preview-and-adjust step lets your finance team or accountant correct anything before submission.
