Document Management & Archive (DMS) is a per-tenant AL extension that turns Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central into a paperless document hub. Instead of scattering PDFs across email, network drives and the limited native Attachments FactBox, your team attaches, versions, searches and archives documents directly on any BC record — Sales Orders, Purchase Invoices, Customers, Vendors, Items, Jobs or your own custom tables.

This is not an instant AppSource download. ECOSIRE builds the extension to fit your environment, then installs and supports it. We deliver it as a per-tenant extension published to your Business Central tenant (online or on-prem), wired into your data with table and page extensions, event subscribers and a dedicated permission set.

Under the hood, documents are stored in your own SharePoint document library or Azure Blob Storage container — not locked inside the BC database — so you keep ownership, governance and cost control. The extension records metadata, version history and a full audit trail in BC tables, and exposes folder structures, drag-and-drop upload and full-text search from a clean role-tailored page. A Job Queue entry handles background indexing and archival retention rules.

Because every business files documents differently, we tailor the record types covered, folder taxonomy, naming conventions, retention policy and permission sets to your processes. Integration points (Power Automate flows, Dataverse virtual tables, OData/REST endpoints for external systems) are scoped during discovery.

You get working software on your tenant, source-available AL code, documentation, and a support window — built by people who do Business Central AL development daily, not a black-box app you have to reverse-engineer.

Is this a Business Central app I can install instantly from AppSource?

No. This is a build-to-order extension. ECOSIRE builds it to match your record types, folder taxonomy and storage choice, then publishes and installs it as a per-tenant extension on your Business Central environment (online or on-prem). You are paying for the software plus the engineering, installation and support — not a self-service AppSource download.

How long does delivery take?

Typical lead time is about 2 to 4 weeks from the discovery call, depending on how many record types you cover and whether you choose SharePoint or Azure Blob. The flow is: discovery and scoping, build on a sandbox tenant, your UAT, then production install. We confirm a firm date in writing after scoping; the $249 covers the standard build, and any out-of-scope integrations are quoted separately.

Where are the documents actually stored?

In your own storage — either a SharePoint Online document library or an Azure Blob Storage container that you own and control. Business Central holds the metadata, version records and audit trail; the file binaries live in your storage backend. This keeps your BC database lean and leaves document governance, retention and cost in your hands.

Who handles ongoing support, updates and BC version upgrades?

ECOSIRE supports the extension after go-live. The package includes a post-delivery support window for fixes and questions. Because Business Central releases major updates twice a year, we offer a maintenance arrangement to recompile and re-test the extension against new BC versions; the source-available AL code is also handed to you, so you are never locked in.

Can it cover our custom tables and connect to Power Platform?

Yes. Because we extend in AL, we can add the Document Management FactBox and page extensions to your custom tables as well as standard ones. We can also expose documents over OData/REST or surface them as Dataverse virtual tables so Power Automate, Power Apps and the rest of Microsoft 365 can read and post documents — these integrations are scoped during discovery.
