Most teams running Odoo discover the equipment problem the hard way: a laptop walks out with a departing employee, an offboarding checklist misses a company phone, or Finance cannot reconcile who holds what against the fixed-asset ledger. Odoo's native account.asset model is built for depreciation and accounting, not for day-to-day custody, it has no concept of "employee X currently holds device Y, approved by manager Z, since this date." ECOSIRE builds a dedicated Employee Asset Management module that models the full custody lifecycle as first-class Odoo records. At its core is a custom models.Model for an asset register linked to hr.employee, hr.department, and optionally account.asset for finance reconciliation, carrying serial numbers, categories, purchase and warranty dates, condition state, and a computed current_holder_id maintained via @api.depends on the active allocation. Allocation requests flow through a configurable approval chain (employee submits, manager and/or IT approves) implemented as a state field state machine driven by Odoo activity reminders, so nothing sits in limbo. Every state change, request, approval, hand-over, transfer, return, and write-off, is written to mail.thread chatter and to a dedicated allocation-history model, giving you a permanent, auditable timeline per asset and per employee.
Technically, the module ships as a proper Odoo addon: a clean __manifest__.py declaring dependencies on hr and mail, ORM models with server-side compute and constraints (a device cannot be allocated to two people at once, a serial number is unique), security enforced through ir.model.access.csv plus record rules that scope managers to their own department, and backend views built in XML with OWL components where a richer UX helps. We add QWeb PDF reports (asset custody sheet, employee equipment hand-over form with signature block, department asset register), automated actions for warranty-expiry and overdue-return alerts, and menus that sit naturally under HR.
