At its core sits a dedicated 'Employee' customer group with its own catalog price rules and tier mapping. A catalog_product_price plugin (interceptor) and a quote total collector decide whether a given SKU shows catalog-level staff pricing (visible list price for logged-in employees) or a cart-level staff discount (applied at checkout via a custom total), so you control exactly where the perk appears. Per-staff or per-tier rules let a "Director" tier differ from a "Warehouse" tier, driven by a customer attribute rather than manual coupon distribution.
Spending controls are first-class: annual or rolling-period spend caps per employee are tracked in a custom table, enforced in an observer on sales_order_place_after, and surfaced to the buyer before they over-spend. Eligibility gating verifies staff via corporate email domain or an issued code before the group is granted — no public coupon leakage.
Everything is exposed through admin ACL-protected configuration, optional REST/GraphQL endpoints for HR-system integration, and a cron job to reset caps each period.
