Quality and production teams in Business Central waste time hunting for controlled documents that live in shared drives, email threads and SharePoint folders disconnected from the transaction they belong to. Document Attachment & Quality Records (DMS) closes that gap by attaching the right drawing, certificate of analysis, inspection record or SOP directly to the Business Central record where work actually happens — released production orders, purchase receipts, item cards, sales orders, and more.
This is a build-to-order extension, not an instant AppSource download. ECOSIRE builds it in the AL language, deploys it to your environment as a per-tenant extension, and supports it on your tenant. We use table and page extensions to add a controlled-documents FactBox to the pages you nominate, event subscribers to enforce revision rules at posting and release, and a configurable storage backing that points at SharePoint / Microsoft 365 or stays inside Business Central's native Attachments, depending on your governance needs.
What you get is context: from a production order line, an operator opens the current released drawing revision; from a purchase receipt, a receiving clerk pulls the supplier CoA before put-away; from an item card, quality sees every SOP that governs that part. Revisions are tracked, superseded versions are flagged, and permission sets decide who can view, upload or approve controlled documents.
Because it is custom-built, the scope is yours: which pages get the FactBox, which document types you control, how revisions are numbered, and whether files live in SharePoint or BC. How long does delivery take, and how is it installed?
This is a build-to-order extension, so there is an honest lead time rather than an instant download. After a short scoping session to confirm which pages, document types and revision rules you need, a typical build runs about one working week depending on scope and storage integration. ECOSIRE builds it in AL, installs it first to your sandbox for UAT, then deploys it to production as a per-tenant extension under change control. You are never left to self-install.
What does ongoing support and updates look like after go-live?
ECOSIRE supports the extension on your tenant under a defined arrangement. Because it ships as a per-tenant extension, it survives Business Central's monthly and major updates; we monitor compatibility with each BC release, fix issues, and apply enhancements you request. Scope changes — new pages, new document types, tighter revision rules — are handled as agreed follow-on work rather than forcing a rebuild.
Where are the files actually stored — in Business Central or SharePoint?
Either, by your choice. We can back the extension with SharePoint / Microsoft 365 so documents live in your governed document libraries, or keep them in Business Central's native Attachments if you prefer everything inside BC. We confirm the model during scoping based on your governance, retention and access requirements.
Does this work with my permission and security setup?
Yes. Access to controlled documents is enforced through Business Central permission sets, with view, upload and approve tiers. We align those tiers with your existing roles so quality can approve, operators can view the current revision, and uploads are restricted to authorized users. Every attach, replace and supersede action is logged with user and timestamp.
Can the document data feed Power BI or other systems?
Yes. Document metadata is exposed through the Business Central OData / REST API, so you can report on document coverage, revisions and access in Power BI. Where useful, we can surface the same controlled documents in Power Platform / Dataverse apps so field or shop-floor tools read from one source of truth.
