Marketing and content teams that run their site on the Odoo Website builder usually have only two ways to put a video on a page: paste an external embed link that ships a third-party player (with its cookies, branding, and tracking) onto your own domain, or drop a raw <video> tag into an HTML block and hope the file loads. Native Odoo has no first-class concept of a self-hosted video — no snippet that lets a non-technical editor pick a video the way they pick an image, no managed storage for large media, and no consistent player across pages. The result is inconsistent playback, external dependencies you do not control, and content a marketer cannot maintain without a developer.
This build-to-order module gives Odoo a proper self-hosted video capability. We add a drag-and-drop Website snippet that lets editors upload an MP4 in the page editor and render it through a clean, dependency-free HTML5 <video> player with native controls, poster image, and autoplay / muted / loop / preload toggles. Uploads are stored as Odoo attachments (ir.attachment) so they live in your filestore or configured object storage, respect access rules, and are served with correct MIME types and HTTP Range requests so browsers can seek and stream rather than download the whole file at once. Because the player is standard HTML5 wired into the existing web.assets_frontend bundle, there is no external script, no cookie banner surprise, and no per-view licensing.
Technically, the module ships its own __manifest__.py declaring the frontend assets and snippet templates, a small model layer for video records and their metadata (title, poster, aspect ratio, computed file size via @api.depends), ir.model.access.csv plus record rules so only website managers can upload while public visitors get read-only served bytes, and QWeb/OWL templates for both the editor-side snippet options and the public render. Optional extensions we frequently scope in include a controller that enforces upload size and MIME allow-lists, lazy-loading and preload="metadata" for Core Web Vitals, a poster auto-generated on save, and syncing video records over the JSON-RPC/XML-RPC API for teams that publish from an external DAM. It runs on Odoo 17.0, 18.0, and 19.0, and works on both Community and Enterprise (Website is the only prerequisite).
Delivery is build-to-order: we start with a short scoping call, confirm the exact snippet behavior, storage target, and any size/format constraints, then send a fixed quotation and timeline. Typical delivery is 2–4 weeks from confirmed scope. You receive the installable source, a staging UAT with a rollback plan, documentation, and a post-go-live support window — this is a service we build for you, not an off-the-shelf download. Pricing starts from $249 (indicative, single-company base scope); multi-company deployments, external object-storage integration (e.g. S3), transcoding/adaptive-bitrate pipelines, and large existing-media migration volume increase the quoted scope.
Owns the Odoo Website builder and needs editors to add product demos, testimonials, and explainer videos themselves — without pasting HTML or filing a developer ticket for every clip.
Wants video on landing pages but refuses to leak visitors and cookies to a third-party video host; needs self-hosted playback that keeps branding, privacy, and analytics on their own domain.
Responsible for storage, performance, and upgrades; needs videos handled as `ir.attachment` on the right storage backend, with upload size limits and access rules, and code that survives Odoo 17→18→19.
Delivers Odoo websites for clients and needs a reusable, well-documented self-hosted video snippet with clean source and a git handover to fold into their own deployments.
| Criterion | ECOSIRE | Custom Build | Competitor | Odoo Native |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Editor experience | Drag-and-drop Website snippet — editors pick a video like an image | Depends on your build; usually needs a developer per change | Varies; often a generic block with limited snippet options | |
| Self-hosting & privacy | Fully self-hosted MP4 on your domain, no third-party player or cookies | Possible, but you build the storage/serving layer yourself | Some self-host, many wrap an external service | |
| Storage model | `ir.attachment` on filestore or object storage, with access rules | Whatever you implement; easy to get MIME/range serving wrong | Usually attachments, but internals and limits vary | |
| Streaming & seeking | HTTP `Range` serving so browsers stream and seek, not full download | Must be implemented and tested deliberately | Often present, quality and controls differ | |
| Fit & maintainability | Built to your scope, documented, with git handover and support | High effort; you own all future maintenance | Fixed feature set; change requests depend on the vendor | |
| Version coverage | Built and tested for 17.0, 18.0, and 19.0, Community + Enterprise | You port and test across versions yourself | Version support depends on the listing | |
| Total cost & risk | From $249 indicative; fixed quote after scoping, UAT + rollback | Unbounded dev time; you carry the delivery risk | Low sticker price, but rigid and support-dependent | |
| Support model | Post-go-live support window plus optional maintenance engagement | In-house only, unless separately contracted | Vendor ticket queue of variable responsiveness |
No. This is a build-to-order service, not an existing instant download. After a short scoping call we confirm the exact behavior, send a fixed quotation, then build, install, and support it on your environment. We never present it as software that already exists on your instance.
Typical delivery is 2–4 weeks from confirmed scope. Once the scope document and quotation are signed off, we build on a staging database, run UAT with you, and schedule the production cutover. Tighter timelines can sometimes be accommodated depending on integration and migration complexity.
Pricing starts from $249 (indicative, single-company base scope). We give a firm fixed quote only after the scoping call, because drivers like multi-company setups, external object-storage (e.g. S3) integration, transcoding/adaptive bitrate, and large media-migration volume change the effort. The scoping call is about 15–30 minutes.
Every build includes a post-go-live support window for defect fixes and configuration questions, plus a git repository handover so you own the code. Compatibility work for future Odoo versions (e.g. an 18→19 upgrade) or new features is quoted separately as a maintenance engagement.
It runs on both Community and Enterprise for Odoo 17.0, 18.0, and 19.0. The only prerequisite is the standard Website module, since the snippet plugs into the Odoo Website builder and the frontend asset bundle.
Videos are stored as Odoo attachments (`ir.attachment`), so they live in your filestore by default or in a configured object-storage backend — not embedded in the database. Files are served with correct MIME types and HTTP `Range` support so browsers can seek and stream them progressively.
We scope it to avoid that: `preload="metadata"`, lazy-loading, poster images to reserve layout space (protecting LCP/CLS), and range-based streaming so the browser never downloads the whole file up front. For very large libraries we can add transcoding or adaptive-bitrate delivery as an extended scope.
