Furniture makers who take custom orders live in a gap Odoo core never fully closes. Every quotation is really an engineering exercise: a customer wants a 2,300 mm oak sideboard in a specific stain with brass hardware, and someone has to translate that into a bill of materials, a cut list, a route through the workshop, and a price that reflects the labour and offcut waste. Stock Odoo mrp assumes you already know the BoM before the sale — it is built around repeatable products with fixed components. When the product is only defined at quote time, teams fall back to spreadsheets for costing, re-key everything into a manufacturing order by hand, and lose the traceable link between what was quoted and what was actually built. Product variants and configurator options help for simple option matrices, but they break the moment dimensions drive material consumption or a finish adds hours of labour.
This build-to-order configuration is the workshop-specific layer we design and install on top of native sale, mrp, and stock. Technically it is a proper Odoo module: new models extending models.Model for a made-to-order specification (dimensions, material, finish, edge profile, hardware) that hangs off the sale order line, with @api.depends compute methods that size a parametric bill of materials and derive linear-metre or board-foot quantities from the entered measurements. Costing fields roll material, labour, and a configurable waste allowance into an indicative sell price on the quotation, and on order confirmation an automated action (or stock.rule route) generates the manufacturing order with the components and operations already populated — no re-keying. Because dimensional data flows through, report_xxx QWeb templates can print a shop-floor cut list and a customer-facing spec sheet from the same record.
Everything is scoped to your process. Security is enforced with ir.model.access.csv plus record rules so the workshop, sales, and costing roles each see the right data; views are delivered as XML (with OWL components where an interactive configurator adds value); and the specification and cost data are exposed over the XML-RPC/JSON-RPC API so a website product configurator, a CAD hand-off, or a pricing sheet can read and write it. We target Odoo 17.0, 18.0, and 19.0, and we are explicit about Community vs Enterprise: the module runs on Community, and where a feature leans on Enterprise-only apps (such as advanced MRP work-order tablet views, Studio, or Documents) we tell you before the build so the scope reflects your edition.
Because this is build-to-order, nothing is downloaded and switched on today. After you request a quotation we run a short scoping call, agree the exact models, fields, costing formula, and reports, and then build, test on a staging database, and install the version tuned to your workflow — typically 2–4 weeks from confirmed scope. Pricing starts from $349 (indicative, single-company base scope); multi-company setups, deeper localization, e-commerce or CAD integrations, and migrating historical order/BoM data increase the quoted scope. You get a fixed quote after the scoping call, never a surprise on the invoice.
Runs made-to-measure joinery or cabinetry and needs every custom quote to become an accurate BoM, cut list, and manufacturing order without re-keying — and needs the quoted price to actually cover labour and waste.
Turns customer briefs into quotations under time pressure and wants a guided spec-to-price flow inside Odoo, so estimates are consistent and defensible instead of living in personal spreadsheets.
Schedules the shop floor and needs manufacturing orders that arrive with correct components, operations, and printed cut lists, so machinists build to spec and material issue matches what was sold.
Owns the Odoo instance across 17/18/19 and wants a maintainable, access-controlled module with clean API surfaces and documentation, rather than brittle Studio tweaks or an unsupported third-party add-on.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fit to bespoke furniture workflow | Purpose-built for dimension-driven made-to-order jobs | Fully bespoke but you specify and maintain everything | Generic option matrix, rarely dimension-aware | |
| Dimension-driven BoM & costing | Compute methods size the BoM and price from measurements | Possible if you build the compute logic yourself | Usually static components per variant | |
| Quote-to-manufacturing-order flow | Confirmed quote auto-generates a populated MO | Achievable with your own automation work | Often stops at the sale, MO built by hand | |
| Delivery model | Build-to-order, installed in ~2–4 weeks after scoping | Whatever your team or contractor can schedule | Instant download, then you adapt it yourself | |
| Source & ownership | Full source plus git repo handover, no lock-in | You own it entirely | Vendor-controlled, licence-bound updates | |
| Odoo version & edition support | Built/tested on 17/18/19, edition differences flagged | Depends on your team's coverage | Varies; may lag new major versions | |
| Support & maintenance | Post-go-live window plus optional ongoing support | Self-supported or contractor-dependent | Vendor tickets, quality varies | |
| Total cost profile | Indicative from $349, fixed quote after scoping | Higher build cost, unpredictable timeline | Low sticker price, hidden adaptation effort |
Because this is build-to-order, it is not an instant download. After a scoping call to confirm the exact models, costing formula, and reports, we build, test on staging, and install — typically 2–4 weeks from confirmed scope. Larger or multi-integration builds are scheduled accordingly and the timeline is stated in your quote.
Pricing starts from $349 as an indicative figure for a single-company base scope. We run a scoping call, agree the exact fields, costing logic, reports, and integrations, then issue a fixed quote — no surprises on the invoice. Drivers such as multi-company, deeper localization, e-commerce/CAD integration, and historical data migration increase the quoted scope.
Every build includes a post-go-live support window for defect fixes and configuration questions. Because you receive the full source code and a git repository, you can maintain it yourself or retain us for ongoing support and version upgrades. We can also quote an upgrade when you move to a newer Odoo major version.
We build and test against Odoo 17.0, 18.0, and 19.0. The module runs on Community. Where a feature depends on an Enterprise-only app (for example advanced MRP work-order views, Studio, or Documents), we flag it during scoping so the build and quote reflect your edition.
Variants and configurators work well for a fixed option matrix, but they struggle when dimensions drive material consumption and labour. This module treats each custom spec as its own record with compute-driven BoM sizing and costing, so a 2,300 mm piece consumes and prices differently from a 1,200 mm one automatically — and still generates the manufacturing order cleanly.
Yes. You receive installable source and a git repository handover, so there is no lock-in. The specification and cost data are exposed over Odoo's XML-RPC/JSON-RPC API, so a website configurator, CAD hand-off, or external pricing sheet can read and write the same records.
Yes, data migration is an optional part of scope. We assess the volume and shape of your historical order and BoM data during the scoping call and include a migration and validation plan in the quote; larger datasets increase the quoted scope.
