Workflow and object design

Receive a catalog & merchandising signal, validate its source and required fields, resolve product, variant and catalog rule, apply the financial reconciliation decision rules, write the approved state, then record a correlated audit result. The source event is catalog.reconcile.requested; the resulting audit event is catalog.reconcile.recorded. The mapped business surface is product, variant and catalog rule.

Technical approach

The scoped design may use REST Management APIs, GraphQL Storefront API, signed webhooks, Stencil theme extensions, Catalyst storefront components. Authentication is based on store-level or app OAuth credentials with least-privilege scopes. The implementation accounts for BigCommerce rate-limit headers and GraphQL complexity budgets.

Failure and reconciliation design

Every request uses the idempotency key bigcommerce-catalog-reconcile:source-id:revision. Retryable transport and throttle responses enter bounded backoff; validation and mapping failures enter a visible exception queue. A reconciliation pass compares source revision, target identifier and recorded state, then permits controlled replay without duplicating the business action.
