Platform administrators need to govern access, policy and change without losing ownership when records cross system boundaries. This concept starts with the business decision and evidence required at each stage, then maps that intent to supported BigCommerce surfaces.

Workflow and object design

Receive a commerce governance signal, validate its source and required fields, resolve store, user and audit, apply the access & policy governance decision rules, write the approved state, then record a correlated audit result. The source event is governance.govern.requested; the resulting audit event is governance.govern.recorded. The mapped business surface is store, user and audit.

Technical approach

The scoped design may use REST Management APIs, GraphQL Storefront API, signed webhooks, Stencil theme extensions, Catalyst storefront components. Authentication is based on store-level or app OAuth credentials with least-privilege scopes. The implementation accounts for BigCommerce rate-limit headers and GraphQL complexity budgets.

Failure and reconciliation design

Every request uses the idempotency key bigcommerce-governance-govern:source-id:revision. Retryable transport and throttle responses enter bounded backoff; validation and mapping failures enter a visible exception queue. A reconciliation pass compares source revision, target identifier and recorded state, then permits controlled replay without duplicating the business action.
